Is that where you are right now? I can relate and so could the women (and others) that day long ago. Their dreams had died the day before. This day was a required Sabbath of rest. So they prepared as best as they could for what they thought tomorrow would bring and they waited.

“As his body was taken away, the women from Galilee followed and saw the tomb where his body was placed. Then they went home and prepared spices and ointments to anoint his body. But by the time they were finished the Sabbath had begun, so they rested as required by the law.” Luke 23:55-56 NLT
They were confused and shaken and not sure how this would all turn out. They wanted to trust but, their eyes were full of tears and the images of what they had seen. Their hearts were broken.

“Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body.” Mark 16:1 NLT
We can understand from our own times of feeling helpless and powerless to change situations or rescue those we love. We can almost hear their sobs as they try to reason out the unreasonable.

We can call from this side of their tomorrow and tell them it will be okay. The resurrection is on the way. Death did not win. Their dreams did not die.
This is exactly what the Holy Spirit whispers in our ears when we will be quiet enough to listen. Take courage. Another day is coming. Sometimes, we just have to wait as we know full well, this isn’t the end of the story.
